Salt Modern Stories

Salt Modern Stories is a series of short story collections by writers born or working in the British Isles, published as A-format pocket paperbacks – small enough for a coat pocket, at a size the paperback trade has largely abandoned – with uniform Salt covers designed to sit together on a shelf.

The list includes Alison Moore, Michael Arditti, David Gaffney, Paul McVeigh, D. J. Taylor, Will Wiles, Jane Fraser and Clare Fisher, and grows each year. Two or three titles make a good introduction; the full run makes a small library of contemporary British short fiction.

Salt has published short stories since 2006, beginning with David Gaffney's Sawn-Off Tales. Salt Modern Stories is where that work continues, alongside our annual anthology, Best British Short Stories.
