Historical fiction

Salt's historical fiction ranges widely in period and place, from Xan Brooks's post-war Norfolk (The Clocks in This House All Tell Different Times, The Catchers) to Judith Heneghan's Soviet-era Ukraine (Snegurochka, Birdeye) and Meike Ziervogel's mid-century Germany (Magda, Flotsam).

Recent and forthcoming titles bring fresh range to the list: Kate Nicholls's The Maternal Element, Michelle Lovric's The Puffin and Emma Henderson's Two Good Men join established voices including A. N. Wilson and Michael Arditti. Across the list, the historical setting is never simply backdrop – it's where character and consequence are tested most sharply.
