Welcome to House – Salt’s Magazine of Ideas, Craft and Conversation

House is where we explore the wider world around our books – a place for thoughtful essays, sharp features, and reflections on writing and publishing. If you’re thinking of sending us work, do take a little time to read some of our recent pieces. Understanding the tone, shape and curiosity that guide the magazine will give you the best sense of whether your work might be a good fit, and will help you prepare a confident submission.

Submitting to House Magazine

We welcome contributions from existing Salt authors and contributors:

  • Up to three poems
  • One short story
  • Features, interviews, reviews, or think pieces (800–1,800 words)

Your piece should be original, suitable for reading on a smartphone, and written for curious general readers. We can include images and links, though we ask you to keep formatting simple.

What We’re Looking for

  • Fresh writing (we are not republishing previously printed material)
  • Personal essays about the writing life
  • Insights into the making of a book
  • Reflections on literature, culture, and creativity

What We’ll Include

  • Your author bio and headshot
  • Links to your Salt book(s) and/or website
  • Promotion across our social channels, newsletter, and bookseller networks

House Magazine runs on a continuous publication schedule.
