Charles Lambert was born in Lichfield, the United Kingdom, in 1953. After going to eight different schools in the Midlands and Derbyshire, he won a scholarship to the University of Cambridge from 1972 to 1975. In 1976 he moved to Milan and, with brief interruptions in Ireland, Portugal and London, has lived and worked in Italy since then. Currently a university teacher, academic translator and freelance editor for international agencies, he now lives in Fondi, exactly halfway between Rome and Naples.

Charles Lambert was born in Lichfield, the United Kingdom, in 1953. After going to a variety of schools he studied English at Cambridge from 1972 to 1975. In 1976 he moved to Milan and, with brief interruptions in Ireland, Portugal and London, has lived and worked in Italy ever since. Currently a university language teacher and freelance editor for international agencies, his occupations have included kitchen hand, translator, shop assistant, medical journal editor, guidebook writer, receptionist, teacher of political science, and journalist with ANSA, the Italian news agency, and Time Out. He now lives in a ruinously large house in Fondi, exactly halfway between Rome and Naples on what was once the Appian Way.

Charles Lambert began writing fiction in the late 1980s. His first story, “Money”, was selected to appear in The Freezer Counter, a ground-breaking anthology of contemporary gay fiction. He was also among the winners of the 1997 Independent on Sunday/Bloomsbury Short Story Competition. Other stories have been published in anthologies, including New Writing 15, Sea Stories and The Elastic Book of Numbers, such print magazines as Paris Transcontinental, This is: The Poisoned Chalice, The Harrington Gay Men’s Fiction Quarterly, Cadenza and the highly regarded webzines In Posse Review, The Richmond Review, The Barcelona Review, East of the Web and FRiGG. The title story of this collection was originally published by One Story, and was selected as one of the O. Henry Prize Stories 2007. His debut novel, Little Monsters, was published by Picador in March 2008. His second novel is due to be published in 2009/10 (?)
