Chris Wallace-Crabbe

Chris Wallace-Crabbe is Emeritus Professor in the Australian Centre at the University of Melbourne. A poet and critic, his most recent collection of verse is By and Large (Carcanet, 2001) and his forthcoming long poem, The Universe Looks Down (Brandl & Schlesinger). Imagining Australia, co-edited with Judith Ryan, was published from Harvard in 2004. He produced artists’ books with the painter Bruno Leti.

Father-in-Law

Alec, I said you’d be around
    by stratagem or shift
looking for a lift
    to the somewhere burial ground

where she and I had been
    (who loved one another best)
laid to our earthbound rest
    in that grassy, marbled scene.
