Of Embrace and Yet Drifting

From Blanchot’s Ghost

what we call                                                       evades
                                                            the living person
                                                in the absolute calm
                                                the place,
                                                left to him
                                                is missing
                                                            presence established
                                                                        how fragile
            the place where one dies
                                    remains
in the depths of its presence
support of indifference, the yawning intimacy
                                                                        situated here.
            no longer of the world
                                                                        a return
                                    indeterminate
presence and proximity. This is the impression
                                                            close to the condition
            a familiar
            distance
                        dying
‘in your arms’
                                    ‘displaced’
                        untouchable,
of embrace and yet drifting
