Excerpt from book:
Life Policy
Lit by the light of one lamp, with clarinet backdrop & ashtray, you pitch safety and comfortable Futures. Your neighborhood shows as you trace the map, ruffle the bills and conjure up scarcity. Everybody’s doing it, you say, Hopeful. Take your big dreams, I say through the back door, no one here can sing fate or pick up that dime, anymore. We left crossroads back there with compromise, one nation two hundred miseries and all that commotion. Your dreams are just words like table salt. Me I know this year’s moment will be 2 a.m., my life savings and one train ticket down the fault line.
Review quote: This is a moving & accomplished real book of lyric poetry, the kind of work that comes around very rarely. That is, the contemporary American poetry scene is highly energized, there is a lot of talent out there, but rarely does a poet bring it all together in one volume as stirringly as Moxley has. It’s extraordinary. Henry Gould Review quote: To read a Moxley poem is to submerge oneself in a world of chance and possibility while never being allowed to forget the limits that reality, the reality of the self and of the literal, imposes on such notions of utopia or freedom.
