Biographical note: William Guy was born in Liverpool and now lives in Lincolnshire. In between he has spent a life crossing continents and working in several fields, lately as a special needs teacher, but always curious to learn what reasons has the heart. Put that with a taste for literature on the edge, its fresh forms and fun, and you begin to see how he might have come to write this celebration of love and singularity.

description/annotation:
Main description: The I Love You Book is about people telling their truth about love. It has a hundred very different men and women talking about the people, the feelings, the places, the life, the things they love. Here are the affairs of the heart confided by the stand-up comic working his audience, the gangsta defying the world for his girl, the other woman coping with her guilt. Here is love in the family circle, and among lifetime friends and those on society’s fringe easy only with their kind. Here are those who take but cannot give, with the self-serving declarations of the rock star and the stud clashing with the love that leads to oceanic feelings, feelings for all mankind. Here is the love that leads to paradox: the skateboarder proclaiming his social concern, the hacker his moral crusade. Here is the love of the mystic, the dog trainer and scores more. The book, then, is about innocence and sex, tenderness and violence, obsession and liberation, tragedy and fulfilment and the contradictions love can create.

The Copywriter
No way this is nose talk, though alright I sparked
a spliff or two, but spaced out, not this time,
because this time it's time for me to go for
gold, make you that offer you can't refuse,
that long-term solution you've been waiting
for, the one with the lifetime warranty, service
contract included, no, don't laugh, it's not
the skunk, I'm perfect for you, engineered
to last, ergonomically designed, easy to accessorise,
allergy tested, organically grown — I
can keep this up forever — kid friendly,
non-skid backing, your best friend in extreme
conditions, the clear choice when only the
best will do — I write ‘em by the
yard — and it's not just physical you
know, not hung up on your slim-line-spreads-from-fridge-wall-mountable-install-anywhere-self
... ok ok I'll stop, anyway I'm past all that
and into the perfect companion piece relationship,
our here today and here tomorrow relationship,
born of the sun, corrosion-proof, fade-resistant,
built to last a lifetime, the last you'll ever
need, sorry, you have to understand when I'm
on a roll it just pours out, and think of the
home we'll make our own, our personal oasis,
a stage set for the magic to begin, our country
cottage where old world grace gets fused with
new world energy, where you can live the dream,
making the groundbreaking statement, a step
ahead of the pack, and here I am, ready to
take you there, white glove delivery, and just
when maybe you thought you had everything I'm
asking are you ready for something different,
ready to make that marriage of true minds with
its three-six-five day guarantee love will
always be in stock, with everything under one
roof, everything in one easy-to-use package,
ecologically friendly, good for you and good
for the planet, and I know you're ready, ready
to improve your bottom line, just say yes today,
because here I am, your pot of gold, speaking
of pot, let's toke a little some more, give
you time to think how much I love you and whether
you love me like I love you.
